What we do

Fellowship & Community

Jersey Quakers are a warm, friendly, and supportive community who have stood together through life's ups and downs, sharing in the joys and sorrows of each others lives. We have been there alongside each other through such difficulties as the pain of bereavement or divorce, as well as the simple pleasures of life on the island, and there is a very real depth of friendship clearly evident as a result.

Sometimes after Sunday Meeting for Worship, perhaps when we are welcoming a visitor from another meeting, we like nothing more than to lay out the tables for a bring and share lunch, and sit down to picnic together in companionable fellowship.

As members of the wider community of Quakers, we enjoy our connections with others in Hampshire and Islands Area Meeting, both in person and online, as well as nationally with Britain Yearly Meeting.

Discussion Group

We come together for a regular online discussion group once a fortnight, why not join us? Recent topics, for example, have included our peace testimony, and the question of assisted dying. Of course we don't always agree on everything, and often it's those subjects where we differ that provide the most interesting conversations.

To find out more, and to get the zoom link, contact us at jerseyquakers@gmail.com or send a message here.

Friends from other meetings across the area are very welcome to join!

Annual Healing Day

Every year, usually the first Saturday in March, we hold our annual Healing Day.

Our focus is to surround people and situations in need of healing with God's love and hold these concerns in the Light.  We ask to be used as channels for healing, putting love into action and sending Light to where it is needed.

We include our family and friends, our community, societies and conflicts throughout the world, the environment and all life on our fragile planet.

Quaker Nationwide Day of Healing 2024

We gathered in a quiet meeting with a few readings from Quaker Faith and Practice and quotes from Elizabeth Mills’ book “In the Stillness”, until a powerful energy was felt in the room. Natural ministry developed and the second hour went very quickly. As ever it was a wonderful demonstration of the enriching, powerful and moving healing energy that can be sensed as our contribution to the healing energy flowing out to the world. May it help to bring healing and peace to our troubled world.

An email received afterwards said: “Please thank everyone for their wonderful prayers of healing and love for the world."

SIMPLE 👐

Quakers try to live simply and sustainably. We focus on the things that really matter and that bring us closer to each person's understanding of God. We focus on the people around us, the natural world and our experience of meeting for worship. "Let your lives speak."

RADICAL ✊

Quakerism is a radical church, born in radical times, and Quakers continue to live their faith in the world. With radical change needed, many Quakers find in their faith a spiritual home which sustains them in working for that change.

SPIRITUAL 🙏

We try to find a spiritual wholeness which encompasses suffering as well as thankfulness and joy. Prayer, springing from a deep place in the heart, may bring healing and unity as nothing else can.

"Somewhere between right and wrong there is a garden. I will meet you there." - Rumi
